Just some Friday ramblings...

The Hubbie and I went out last night with my bestie, Cathy.  We were supposed to have a Girls Night Out (Cathy and I) but those plans fell through when I did not get off my bottom and purchase the tickets we needed in time.  Oh well, we had a WONDERFUL time out with David.  We started off at Bone Daddy's House of Smoke.  This is one of those places the waitresses dress sexy (I do not get their outfits but I am not a man ~shrug~ but they are cute gals and extra friendly, usually).  The food their is O M G awesome.  Even doing low carb, I can get a chopped beef or chicken salad and still be "ok".  But last night was not a low carb night....More on that in a few....

I wore a cute sundress with a black short sleave sweater, it was warm when I started getting dressed but by the time we got finished with dinner, it turned chilly...so I should have opted for a long sleeve sweater.

Hair bows are from Hobby Lobby.....I buy them when they are half off so they are super cheap.

I had finally got my hair to do good with a flip and bouffant bump but it fell by the end of the night...it was very windy.

After dinner we headed to Sambuca 360, I posted about this place in a blog post a few weeks ago.  It was different this time.  No so crowded and a different band.  When we went in, the waitress asked if we would be having dinner.  We said no and she said something like "ok...sit anywhere you like".  So we proceeded to go in find a place to sit...we started out in this little section of the club but moved when we saw some tables that looked more comfortable...when we sat there I noticed a "reserved" sign so we moved back to the first little section.  Cathy needed to excuse herself for a bit so we waited there before going to the bar for drinks (there was not a waitress in site...no biggie...again the place was NOT crowded so we would find another seat if these got "taken").  In the mean time, David went to the find Cathy a menu because she had never been there and did not know what drinks were special, etc.  When he got back a waiter (I guess he was a waiter, he tried to take our order but MAN...his appearance was not well kept for a waiter in this place) came over to take our drink order.  Cathy had some questions which he did not answer, just kind of gave her a weird "look"...so she leaned over to ask David something...to that the waiter was just irritate, kind of threw up a hand, and walked away.  OH NO HE DIDN't?  You might ask...and I say OH YES, HONEY, HE DID!!!!  So I asked that David NOT order with this freak and shot him a "WTHeck" look (I did this quietly but I guess the waiter dude knew).  When David left, the waiter made a scene about how we were sitting in the VIP area and did not reserve it.  How were we supposed to know this?  There were NO signs, the girl at the front told us to site "anywhere", we were there for quiet awhile between moving around, the last time we were there it was NOT a VIP section, etc etc etc...  Then another young man came over to take our order and I said that my hubie already went to the bar to take care of it.  To that we were informed that we needed to move because that section was reserved for VIPs.  So I got up and went to the bar to let David know that we needed to sit elsewhere.  It was rather embarrassing, it should have been marked.  We would not have sat in a reserved spot...we MOVED from another reserved spot. 

So when we got to the bar, the bartender was having problems with Cathy's drink.  He got the glass stuck in the shaker thing.  David, my hubbie who is not a bartender was helping him get the glass unstuck.  The bartender walked off and left David to do HIS job.  So David got it unstuck and gave it to Cathy.  This bartender is really nice and even brought drinks to our table thru the night, which was cool, but goodness his flaw did not end with drink making.....today David discovered that the bartender gave him the WRONG AMEX???!!!??? He took his students to lunch and the restaurant ran "his" card four times and it was declined....then they all discovered it was not his card.  The man who the card belonged to got David's card and had already called in to AMEX so both cards were cancelled.  Good grief!!!! I just not understand how this bartender could be so careless...and it was carelessness because he remembered David from other times we had been in the joint.

Anyway...back to the club.  We should have known the evening was going to go south before we even walked in.  Cathy got her toe stepped on by some amazon wearing heavy platform shoes...Cathy had on sandals.  After we got moved, Cathy got her drink, sans cocktail shaker,  and settled down to have some fun...I got the worst stomache ache.  I tried to be a trooper and deal with it but after an hour or so I could not take it and both David and Cathy noticed the bad look onj my face and decided we should leave. 

We all just assumed it was something I ate...but we all ate pretty much the same thing.  I thought more about it and think it is my vitamins.  I started using pre-natal vitamins yesterday and think they upset my tummy.  It is still unsettled today but the pain I was feeling passed, pretty much. 

I started on pre-natal vitamins because I read in a fertility book that you should start taking those while TRYING to conceive to get your body ready...and they have other good benefits like strong nails, pretty skin, and healthy hair.  We have been without birth control since the beginning so I am thinking I need to find out why nothing has happened in the baby department.  I am just pretty much scared to see a doctor about this and find out something that will burst my baby bubble...  I am also no longer doing a strict low carb diet.  I was having trouble sticking to it this go, anyway, but now I am unclear which diet I should follow.  I know I still need to loose so when I do conceive I can have an easier time and healthy baby....and of course there is the vanity reason to loose.

So now dinner is in the oven and almost time to bless the bread and wine....so I wish you all a Blessed Friday.

Date Night / Dinner and a Movie: True Grit and The Purple Cow

The film is narrated by the adult Mattie Ross (Elizabeth Marvel), who explains that her father was murdered by one of his hired hands, Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), when she was 14 (Hailee Steinfeld); Chaney made off with her father's horses and two of his California gold pieces. While collecting her father's body, Mattie inquires about hiring a Deputy U.S. Marshal to track down Chaney. She is given three recommendations, but chooses to hire Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), because he is described as the most merciless. He repeatedly rebuffs her attempts to hire him.
Meanwhile, at the boarding house where she is staying, Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) arrives on the trail of Chaney. LaBoeuf has been pursuing him for several months over a murder in Texas. He proposes to Mattie that they should team up with Cogburn, since the Marshal knows the Choctaw terrain where Chaney is hiding, while LaBoeuf knows how the man is most likely to behave. Mattie rejects LaBoeuf's offer, partially because he would take Chaney back to Texas to be hanged for the prior murder, instead of her father's. After finally securing Cogburn's services, Mattie is instructed to meet him the following morning to begin the search for Chaney. Though instead of meeting Mattie, Cogburn leaves a note telling her to go home while he goes to apprehend Chaney.
After she is refused passage on the river ferry that conveyed Cogburn and LaBoeuf, Mattie demonstrates her own "true grit" by riding into the water and being pulled across by her swimming horse. (photo and synopsis from Wikipedia) I am not one to be a plot spoiler so if you want to know more please go see the movie ;)  It is WELL worth your time.

I enjoyed this movie so much.  I already like Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, but now I am a HUGE fan of the young lady who played 14 year old Mattie Ross, Hailee Steinfeld.  She is nominated for best SUPPORTING actress (???) for the role, which I just do not understand.  How is she a SUPPORTING actress when she was the star of this movie?  She was in EVERY scene.  As you can see from the movie poster above, she is not even listed.  I understand marketing, in regards to the poster, I guess...I mean if I saw her name on the poster, I would not know who she is....but I would soon understand her billing after seeing the movie.  Was there truely no more room on this poster for ONE more name?  If not, take Josh Brolin off, I mean really?  He was barely in the film and not all that memorable except he plays the man they are seaching for...

Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges were good, too, but that is a given....we all know they are good actors and I would expect nothing less.

I have not seen all the other nominated movies or performances, yet, but so far my pick for best supporting actress is Hailee Steinfeld.  I do not like changing my choice from Amy Adams, as her performance in The Fighter was very good, as well, but I was very impressed with Hailee Steinfeld, I hope she continues with her talent (we know so many young ones do not).

After the movie we went out to The Purple Cow for dinner.  This has been one of my favorite places since I took the Assisted Living residents there for lunch outing while working as a Social Director of a retirement community.  The Purple Cow is supposed to me fashioned after an old fashioned diner.  Their food is ok, depending on what you order.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Chicken Caesar Salad, they have this amazing olive mix in it and OMGoodness it is good.  David orders something different every time we go and he has seemed to like it all.  They also have Adult Shakes, which are different shakes with liquor added.  Although I have never had one, one of the residents where I worked has and he LOVED them.  I have had, however, plenty of their purple ice cream and it is very yummy.

While we waited for our dinner to be served, we played Trivia Pursuit.  As odd as that may sound, they had the cards from Trivia Pursuit on the table.  Well it sure beats coloring the children's menu.

We had a great time on our date night.

Sambuca 360 in Plano, Texas and Profesor D

We joined a few friends Sambuca 360 in Plano, Texas last night to watch Professor D.   I used to go out to watch Professor D quiet often with a group of friends but have not been in quiet awhile and the first time David has never seen them.  While their show was still very predictable, they are the kind of band that plays a mix of today's top 40 and oldies from the 70's, 80's, and 90's, they are still fun and very danceable....and of course since you know all the words to the popular songs, you can sing along with them.
I loved Sambuca 360.  It was a bit different than the one I had been to in Addison but still very cool.  It is a super club where you can have dinner and drinks, see the show, and dance.  We ordered drinks and the artichoke stuffed with goat cheese.  OMGoodness that was good.  I enjoyed the drinks, as well.  While David stuck to his favorite, Shiner Boch, I tried a few of the more fruity drinks.  One was a bit weird but very refreshing...it was pineapple vodka and crushed cucumber.  David said it was like drinking a facial at a spa...but I enjoyed it.  The crowd was mixed with people our age (late 30s to mid 40s), some younger, some older...everyone fits in.  The drink prices are mid-range (10 to 15.00) as is the bar food.  We had a great time and plan to make this a regular stop for drinks.

 

Professor D

I loved the top I wore.  Can you believe I bought it at JC Penny?  AND it was only 7.00????  I have not found anything at JC Penny in AGES.  I went in looking for a simple white cardigan, if I was to find a CASHMERE cardigan, BONUS....I did not find either a simple or cashmere cardigan ...so search continues for that...but I did score with this top, 2 nighties, and a silkie robe.  Anyway, I really like this top but think the design on the bottom is drawing too much attention to my problem area, my tummie....but it also draws attention to my butt so it is a trade off as David rather enjoys my big ole butt.  My skirt is a pencil skirt I made, shoes from my ever growing collection.  I carried a vintage clutch I picked up while thrifting.
