Saying good bye, FINALLY to my unlucky jeans!!!!!

A few years ago...ok..more than a FEW...I bought these CUTE capri jeans from Lane Bryant.

These took awhile to sell which boggles my mind because I think they are so cute.  I just love the brocade and sequins on the cuffs.  That is why "I" bought them in the first place.  And the top was thrown in as a bonus.    They finally sold, are packed up, and on their way to their new home.

Do you ever have an outfit that brings back memories?  More than your wedding dress....of course THAT will bring back memories (hopefully good!!!!).  I have several...and this one is one of BAD MEMORIES...so good riddance to it.  LOL.

I always called this my "unlucky" outfit.  I wore it twice and both times was a "not fun" day.  The first time was when I worked as a nanny for this real creep of a woman over in Willow Bend in Plano.  I wore this outfit when she and I had a pretty big disagreement on why I was hired.  I believe this was my very last day working for her because I did not work for a week then we parted ways.  Not that leaving that job was a bad thing, the children were mostly spoiled and the mom, like I said, was a creep and really hired me to hang out with her...long story...never mind.  Anyway...the day was bad but the ending pretty good.

The next time I wore it was many years later....while I was an Activity and Event Planner for a Retirement community.  This day's story was kind of funny.  I had returned to the community with party supplies and as I turned into the driveway, I ran into the UPS truck.  I really did not hit it that hard, I thought...but OUT STORMS the driver from the back of the truck.  He marches into the building and demands to speak to my boss.  He proceeds to tattle on me and tells her that I barreled into his truck, while he was in the back.  He goes on to describe a scene of him falling over and packages tumbling all around and on his head.  He is very dramatic about this and my boss just busts out laughing.  I followed him into the building to make sure he is ok and apologise...I was pretty scared as this was the first time I had any kind of "on the job" accident.  I knew HE was fine because he was walking and acting a fool.  But he was so mad and got even madder cause my boss laughed at him.  What made this day really bad was I had to go to Concentra medical center and wait for HOURS to get a drug test.

Earlier that day my boss had told me how cute she thought my outfit was and I told her the story of my fight a few years prior with my ex boss.  And how I had forgotten about the outfit until that morning when looking for something to wear.  So after THIS incident she decided that it was my UNLUCKY outfit.

Now fast forward to today...after the bad luck...sitting in a box for years...being out grown...now too big...being put out for a garage sale....taken to a resell shop...and listed on Craig's list and eBay several times...It FINALLY found a new home.  But before I packed this cute but weird in luck outfit up for shipment...it tried to redeem it's self.  I stuck my hand deep into the pocket and pulled out TWO rumpled 20 dollar bills.  JUST before sending it to my buyer.

Ok...I am pretty cheap so I got very excited about this find.  With this and the profit I made from the sell, I am pretty happy.  I might just go over to my ex bosses house (the creep) and give it to her so she can buy a clue on how to treat her nannies.

Should I sell....or keep and look fabulous? Diane von Furstenberg

I could not believe that I found this label in my size.  Now do not get too excited, it is not a wrap dress.  If it was, I would not even question keeping it.  It is, however, a cute polka dot dress in black and hot pink (a favorite of mine).  I will guess that it is vintage, but not dated too far back...maybe vintage 1980s?  Looks like something an aunt of mine would have worn back then.

What makes me question keeping it is the label.  Diane von Furstenberg.  I love this designer and was very surprised to find something in my size.  Her dresses sell very well on eBay and I could really make a very nice return on investment.

I know I do not have to decide right now...this dress will surely sell pretty good for awhile.  I just wanted to know what my fashionable followers might think.

eBay Auctions going on this week: Lots of TORRID, CHICO'S and more...

As a full figured curvy GODDESS...(LOL)...I want to look my best and wear fashionable and sometimes trendy outfits.  One of the most fun places to shop and find adorable clothing, my size, is Torrid.  However, it is a pretty pricey place....so off to eBay we go!!!!

I have a few Torrid skirts listed this week and I really REALLY want to send them off to a better home.

Now if you are a Goddess of less girth (is that the word?), you might enjoy the items I have from CHICO'S.   You will especially enjoy the Travelers collection, if you are traveling for work or pleasure this summer.  I also have a cute pair of Chico's Bermuda shorts up for auction.

I have more Chico's either listed or will be listed soon.  Please take a look at my listing to see all the bargains.

Let's go shopping....

I have been ill the last few days with a glorious UTI (sorry if my UTI is TMI...WT*censored*?) and have not felt like blogging much....that is my excuse for now.  Next week it will be something else, I am sure.  I DID, however, get a bunch of things listed on eBay over the weekend.  Please go take a look.

I have some Anthopologie dresses and skirts (Odille, Fei), as well as other things that are just fabulous.  I have the most darling Lilly Pulitzer Maternity Golf dress, in pink.  YUM.  The beutiful Pink w/ Bead trimmed dress is a Lilly Pulitzer, too.  It is so pretty and bright in person.  Perfect for the summer.

Here is a sample of what I have listed....

Diane von Furstenberg Auction on eBay...and a bit of fashion history

I have blogged about how much I love LOVE L.O.V.E. wrap dresses in previous posts (here) and finding this absofreakinlutly adorable Diane von Furstenberg little number has just got me giddy.

I wish I could find someone to model it for me but everyone I know is either curvier than a size 8 or smaller... To me, it is absolute perfection in a wrap dress.  Silk blend that gives the right amount of "hang" to the fit...and moves like melted butter.  I can just see someone wearing this to a party or club night and being free to move on the dance floor.  I am not sure what year this is from but to me, it has a great "disco" vibe to it.  And the colors...SWOON...just so brilliant and vibrant.

If anyone is interested in the dress, it is up for auction on eBay (my eBay listings are under dfwgirliegirl...or follow the link).  It is a size 8.  I am hoping there will be a fun bidding war in the next few days.  Bidding ends on Sunday.

A climax to the American sportswear wrapping tradition came in the 1970s via the sensation of Von Furstenberg's wrap dress. Its fundamental form was already deeply embedded in the American designer sportswear tradition; a new woman designer translated the style into 1970s fabrics and colors, generally brighter, bolder, and more synthetic (and stretchy) than the early examples to which the silhouette and design principle are indebted. Source: Diane Von Furstenberg: Wrap dress (1997.487) | Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Here is a bit of History on the designer, Diane von Furstenberg...

"In 1970, with a $30,000 investment, she began designing women's clothes - "The minute I knew I was about to be Egon's wife, I decided to have a career. I wanted to be someone of my own, and not just a plain little girl who got married beyond her desserts."(Her former husband also became a fashion designer in 1974.)[6] She is best known for introducing the knitted jersey "wrap dress" in 1973, an example of which, due to its influence on women's fashion, is in the collection of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In 1985 she moved to Paris, France where she founded Salvy, a French-language publishing house. Fürstenberg has started a number of other businesses including a line of cosmetics and a home-shopping business which she started in 1991.

In 2005, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awarded her a lifetime achievement awardand the following year named her as their president. She also designed a Sidekick with T-Mobile. In 2008, she appeared as a judge on several episodes of Project Runway.

In 2009, an large scale retrospective exhibition entitled "Diane von Furstenberg: Journey of a Dress" opened at the Manezh, one of Moscow's largest public exhibition spaces. The show was curated by Andre Leon Talley and attracted a lot of media attention.

In 2010, She also appeared as a judge on an episode of America's Next Top Model, Cycle 15(Diane von Furstenberg), which aired on September 15, 2010.

Von Fürstenberg is referenced in Dolly Parton's 1981 song "Working Girl".

Renowned for its iconic wrap dress and signature prints, DVF has grown into the global luxury lifestyle brand it is today with a complete collection of ready-to-wear, swim, accessories, footwear and handbags - and now, a line of chic and iconic Kindle covers. Inspired by DVF signature prints, these new covers are both functional and fashionable.

Von Furstenberg served as an inspiration for Andy Warhol, Julian Opie, Chuck Close, and many others and has been the subject of a number of artistic renderings."  (from Wikipedia)

Oh...and THIS is exciting.  Ms. von Furstenberg will be launching a line for Baby Gap.

"Diane von Furstenberg, the popular womenswear designer and creator of the iconic wrap dress of the 1970s, is partnering with Gap Kids to create a childrenswear capsule collection for the label. It will be the first time the designer has created a line for children.

WWD reports that the capsule collection for Gap Kids and Baby Gap will be go on sale in March 2012 and will include products for babies and girls from ages two to 14. The collection will be sold at locations in 30 countries." (From The Washington Post)  Now THAT?  I can not wait to see in the windows as I am window shopping at the mall.

eBay Report For March

As I have mentioned more than a few times, I started selling on eBay.  Mostly mid level clothing, nothing too high end (yet!!!!)...hings like Lane Bryant, Torrid, Talbots, Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, Ann Klein, Chico's, Eileen Fisher, Bebe, Miss Me...etc etc.  I think those on the eBay boards call these "bread and butter" items, meaning they are easy to find and easy to sell.  These have been constant sellers for me in March.

I love to shop so this has been a lot of fun...either shopping clearance racks, thrift stores, or my own "too big" clothing stash.  I even sold a few VERY large ladies shoes that belonged to a cross-dresser I knew...ha ha.

I have no idea how much I spent when buying things from the thrifts, but I wrote some of the things down so I could have an estimate...

109.41 purchases and 62.51 in eBay fees...and figured out how much difference is in my paypal from my ebay...bla bla bla.  I am not good in math at all and in no way a good business person....but I think I made about 306.47.  That is not bad at all...esp considering alot of my items have not sold.  LOL.  I made this on 42 items so that means I averaged a little over 7 bucks an item profit.  I might have all this mixed up...whatever.  I made some change for my pockets...LOL.  I need to find an accounting system that I can keep up with and understand.  I think I did pretty good for my first month of not knowing what I am doing....donchathink?

Here are some of my most favorite sells:

Gap Recycled Wool Dress around 3 bucks....sold for 9.99

Size 15 (I also had a size 13) red pumps.  Bought for 0 sold for 20 (the other pair sold for 20, too)

Torrid Goth / school girl skirt.  Bought ages ago... sold for 21.49
(I do believe this sold for more than I paid a long time ago!!!!)

Torrid pencil skirt...bought ages ago sold for 12.99

Torrid skinny pants, again bought ages ago...sold for 10.49

I bought this on clearance ages ago...did not look right on me so I never wore it.  Sold for 16.49

Anthropologie skirt (first and only one I have come across at the thrifts) paid 2.99 sold for 9.99

Bebe dress, without belt.....bought for 5.00 sold for 19.99

Love LOVE L O V E this Bebe skirt.  Bought for 1.50 Size 2 is NOT my size...so I sold it for 10.50

Ann Taylor lace straight skirt...paid 2.99 sold for 7.99
(I had to list this TWICE...I would have snagged it up on the first go around...)

Saw this Torrid skirt at Goodwill and past it up on 2 separate visits...no size tag.  I spotted it on visit 3 and it was half off, so I paid 1.50 for it.  It sold for 12.50

Another lovely from Bebe.  Paid 2.99 and it sold for 20.49.  I also sold an adorable Bebe black pencil skirt, found for 1.00 and sold for  12.99.  LOVE BEBE!!!!

J.Jill Wool NWT skirt...found for 2.99 (and it might have been half of that, I do not remember...).  I took a chance at listing this one HIGH at 29.99 with Free Shipping....AND. IT. SOLD!!!!
I had a few disappointments, as well.  First....I sold an adorable lime green Venezia tunic shirt that I had in my own stash...I remember wearing it once...MAYBE twice.  Sent it off and got an email from the buyer that there were spots on it.  I KNOW I checked it several times....but that one got past me.  So it came back home.

I also listed these items and they did not sell....some things I would love to wear if they fit me...

I have listed this blue label Ralph Lauren skirt a few times with no bids.  It is such a classic piece that I just knew there would be a bidding way over it.  LOL.

And this super cute Ann Taylor tan striped skirt.  It is a size 6 and just sat there both times it was listed...while it's less attractive cousin, another Ann Taylor tan skirt sold.  Who knew?
Here are some sweet things I have listed right now...The auctions are all ending tomorrow....

Vintage Olga Night Gown

Long Chico's Travelers Skirt Size 1 and one in cranberry size 3

Torrid School Girl Skirt NWT Size 18

Disney Tiki Wrap Skirt...SO CUTE!!! Size Large

Chico's Brown full skirt, size 1 or 2...

Chico's Black and White Capris....I noticed another seller has the jacket to this outfit...OUTSTANDING if someone was able to win both!!!

Eileen Fisher Size Large black blouse / jacket

Miss Me Gypsy Boho Chic Skirt.  Very cute!!!!

I also have a lot of Ann Taylor, Venezia / Lane Bryant, Talbots, etc listed.  They all end thru out the day Sunday, tomorrow.

Here's to hoping April is just as good for me....
